Writing Mechanics Lessons

Communicating effectively through writing is a necessity for lifelong success. This module progresses from end punctuation to using quotation marks to working with various clauses.

Writing Level 1

Nouns: Recognition (People, places, things)
Pronouns: Subject/object, singular, plural
Verbs: State of being, action, ­context
Parts of Speech: Adjectives
Capitalization: First word, proper names, days, etc.
Punctuation: End punctuation, ­commas, abbreviations
Spelling: Endings, plurals, i before e
Sentences: Complete and incomplete

Writing Level 2

Nouns: Plural forms
Pronouns: Singular, plural, ­possessive
Verbs: Subject/verb agreement
Parts of speech: Prepositions, ­conjunctions, interjections
Capitalization: Pronouns, days, seasons
Punctuation: Commas, apostrophes, contractions
Spelling: Homonyms and more
Sentences: Complete, fragment, run-on

Writing Level 3

Nouns: Noun forms and possessives
Pronouns: Indefinite & personal in context.
Verbs: Transitive/intransitive, ­parallel tenses
Parts of Speech: Adjectives, adverbs
Capitalization: Greetings, place names, nationalities
Punctuation: Commas, quotes
Spelling: Common misspellings
Sentences: Clauses
