Title I supports low-income students throughout the nation. Funds are distributed to high-poverty schools, as determined by the number of students who qualify for free or reduced lunch.

These funds can be used to hire additional teachers or teaching assistants, to provide computers or software, to fund before, after, and summer school programs, and to purchase supplemental materials or equipment.

Part A:

Improving the academic achievement of the disadvantaged: This program seeks to provide additional academic support and learning opportunities to help low-achieving children master challenging curricula and meet state standards in core academic subjects. Also it helps with financial assistance to local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families.

Part B:

State Assessments Grants: This program seeks to pay for the administration of the assessments and for other related activities; to carry out audits of State and local assessments; and, to improve the quality, validity, and reliability of State academic assessments.

Part C:

Migrant Education Program: This program seeks to ensure that all migratory children reach challenging academic standards and graduate with a high school diploma (or complete a high school diploma). It also provides the appropriate educational resources that migrant children need to accomplish State academic standards.

Part D:

Prevention and Intervention Programs for Children and Youth Who Are Neglected, Delinquent or At Risk Program: This program seeks to improve educational services for these children so they have the opportunity to meet challenging State academic content and achievement standards. Also, is provides them with services to successfully transition from institutionalization to further schooling or employment.
